| Annotation | Statistics show that more than one in ten American grandparents have assumed responsibility of caring for a grandchild or grandchildren. Articles in this special issue of the Journal of Gerontological Social Work indicate that grandparents caring for a child with a disability have many of the same concerns as other grandparent carers. Studies also document many unmet needs for both the grandparent and the grandchild. Two further factors are highlighted: a high level of depressive symptoms; and the process by which grandparents assume care. (RH). |
