AnnotationFrom October 2001, people who previously have had to pay for care from a registered nurse will have that care paid for by the NHS in England. From April 2003, the NHS will also become responsible for paying for the care needed from a registered nurse by: anyone who is getting support from a council towards the costs of their nursing care; and anyone with "preserved rights" to Income Support (IS) who has up to now had nursing home fees paid from benefits paid to them to the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP, formerly the Department of Social Security, DSS). This leaflet outlines these changes, which applies to for England only: different arrangements will apply for Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. Also included are a glossary of terms used (such as "personal care" and "intermediate care"), and a list of organisations, further information and leaflets. (RH).
