| Annotation | In England, the National Service Framework (NSF) for Mental Health, published in September 1999, applies to all working age adults, including prisoners; the seven standards are included as an Annex. Wales has issued an All Wales Strategy for adult mental health services, and the National Service Framework for Wales is due in early 2002. In line with those documents, "Changing the outlook" sets out a joint Department of Health (DH) and Prison Service approach to far-reaching development and modernisation of mental health services to prisons in the next 3-5 years. About half of the Prison Service Health budget is spent on mental health services, and could be used more effectively. The Prison Health Policy Unit and Prison Health Task Force will be publishing further guidance. (RH). |
