AnnotationDietary guidelines have been developed to assist older Australians in their food and lifestyle choices, that would assist in the compression of morbidity and promote healthy ageing. This paper discusses the importance of healthy eating through the ageing process, including the use of dietary guidelines for older Australians, the importance of continued activity during the ageing process, and the special needs of frail or bed-bound older people. To maintain a healthy lifestyle, older Australians should participate in regular physical activity or regular social activity in which eating occurs, otherwise avoid excessive use of tobacco, alcohol, caffeine, and an unnecessary intake of medicines.
