| Annotation | The authors designed a framework that guides nursing research and practice about the specific effects of the cognitive and other changes of dementia on older persons' abilities. In this article the assumptions and elements of the framework are detailed. An extensive illustration of the application of the framework is provided concerning ideational apraxia in dementia and self-care abilities related to feeding. It is shown how nurses can draw information from the scholarship of other disciplines and incorporate it into an understanding of the effects of dementia on abilities. The framework can be used to systematically focus research and practice concerning the care of people suffering from dementia. (KJ). |
