AnnotationIs it common for older people to show reluctance to ask for or accept help for health-related and disability-related problems? Are there perhaps some kinds of help which older people are more reluctant to accept than others? This review examines evidence from qualitative and quantitative studies on the nature and magnitude of the problem, and reasons for refusal of help and the non-utilization of care. Other categories considered are: where there are no problems with the acknowledgement or recognition of need (e.g. availability of alternative sources of help); and problems with the acknowledgement in recognition of need.
