| Annotation | This annual survey has been continuous since 1993 and until 1998/99 it was carried out by the Social Survey Division of the Office for National Statistics on behalf of the Department of the Environment, Transport and the Region, which has responsibility for housing policy in England. The findings are based on the Survey of English Housing (SEH), which conducts interviews with a sample 20,000 households during each financial year (April to March). Housing in England provides key data on tenure, (owner occupation, social and private rented sector) together with personal characteristics, income, employment and housing histories of the householders. Additional varied topics are focused upon in each year's survey for an in-depth analysis, e.g. the 1998/99 survey has a chapter on the housing of older people. In the 2001/02 volume, the final chapter looks at a number of issues that embrace the changing living arrangements of elderly householders over the past twenty years; including their current satisfaction with their accommodation and local amenities. This annual survey ceased with the 2007/08 edition and was replaced with a new survey, the English Housing Survey (EHS) launched in April 2008. The EHS represents a merger of the Survey of English Housing (SEH) with Communities and Local Government's other household survey, the English House Condition Survey (EHCS). (KJ). |
