Annotation400 young-old, middle-old and old-old Americans responded to a battery of questions dealing with life satisfaction and objective ageing knowledge in the physical, psychological and social domains. Analyses incorporated domains of ageing knowledge, life satisfaction, age, gender, and demographic variables. Mean difference and regression analyses were computed. Significant age group, gender, and life satisfaction differences were found for the three ageing knowledge domains. For successive age groups, knowledge of ageing decreased with women knowing less than men. Life satisfaction was higher, the greater the knowledge of ageing. The demographic variable, education, financial status, health, living arrangements, and volunteerism were significant co-variates for knowledge of ageing. (RH).
