AnnotationThe review of the Mental Health Act 1983 is part of the Government's modernisation agenda for England and Wales. Mental health legislation has been affected by the Human Rights Act 1998, judgments in the European Court of Human Rights and in the House of Lords (notably the 'Bournewood judgment'), and the Mental Capacity Act 2005. This article provides a short overview of changes introduced in the Mental Health Act 2007. It argues that the workforce changes are important features of the Act that confirm policy goals of integrated working and practice. (RH).
