KeywordsHealth [elderly] ; Exercise.
AnnotationRegular exercise is essential to healthy ageing and can help prevent a range of illnesses in later life. Evidence suggests that exercise interventions are cost-effective. Physical activity can increase longevity, can help prevent cognitive decline, reduce the risk of falls and delay or prevent disability. There is a lack of consensus about the type of medical assessment and screening tests required before advising an older person to start an exercise programme. (JL).
