Aluminium and Alzheimer's disease

KeywordsDementia ; Metals ; Literature reviews.
AnnotationThis editorial article reviews evidence regarding the link between the ingestion of aluminium and Alzheimer's disease (AD). Epidemiological evidence of a relation between aluminium and AD is difficult to obtain, because the disease tends to be under-reported and misdiagnosed, and because exposure is hard to determine precisely. Reference is made to the study by Dr Martyn's group on the geographical relationship between AD and aluminium in drinking water, reported in this issue of the Lancet. (RH).
