AnnotationThe care in the community initiative was announced by the government in 1981, followed by the Green Paper and legislation on the legal and financial mechanisms for the transfer of resources from hospital-based to community-based care. This revised report, aimed at practitioners in the voluntary and statutory sectors, looks at the housing aspects of community care. It gives practical guidance and information to those responsible for the planning and provision of community-based housing, including sheltered housing, shared housing and hostels, and highlights areas where legislative and organisational administrative change can facilitate service development. Findings from some major reports on community care, published since the first edition of this report, are reviewed, as are findings from some recent research into community-based services. (AKM).
