AnnotationThis paper reviews some recent research findings on demographic trends, socio-economic conditions, epidemiological characteristics of, and social attitudes toward elderly people (defined as all persons aged 65 years and over) in the Commonwealth Caribbean, which is used here to mean all those English-speaking nations in the region, from the Bahamas in the north to Guyana in the south. Except on demographic topics, social gerontological research in the region tends to be sparse, piecemeal and scattered which, together with the region's socio-cultural diversity, poses difficulties for generalisation and comparison.
