KeywordsDemography ; Developing countries.
AnnotationBased on 1970s and 1980s data, this report summarises detailed demographic and socioeconomic statistics collected on older populations in 22 developing countries. It also suggests areas where additional information is needed for planning and development purposes. For the most part, report data came from the International Data Base on Aging (IDBA) which comprises computer files covering a wide range of variables. The demographic data in this report have been evaluated by US Census Bureau analysts and judged to be as representative as possible of the true situation in a given country. Socioeconomic characteristics are those reported by the countries themselves; the CIR (Center for International Research) has attempted to resolve discrepancies in reported statistics and to alleviate obvious international inconsistencies.
