AnnotationGerontology, which has gradually become a discipline of its own in Germany, was one of the Stiftung Volkswagenwerk's (Volkswagen Foundation) funding priorities from 1973 to 1980. Its main intention was to initiate and support psychological and social contributions to gerontology. This report (in German, with an English summary and introduction) summarises the Foundation's funding activities up to 1979, and presents a preliminary evaluation of projects. Special reports indicate the types of project supported: reactions to stress in old age; work and personality in middle age; employees between employment in and retirement; aged people in Japan; geriatric day hospitals in Glasgow; and social gerontology in university teaching and research at the Gesamthochschule Kassel.
