AnnotationSecond in the series established by Command Paper 8591, the Government's response to the report "Science in Government" by the House of Lords elect Committee on Science and Technology. It therefore builds upon the 1983 Review published in January 1984, as a contribution to the public discussion of science and technology policy. The 1984 Review contains in Part I a summary of past and project Departmental and Research Council expenditures for the years 1981/2 to 1986/7, analysis of this expenditure and some international comparative findings. Part II features the objectives and expenditure of the R&D Programmes of individual Departments, amongst them being the Department for Health and Social Security (DHSS). (KJ).
