AnnotationThe English part of this comparative study was a survey of the needs of people aged 65 and over, carried out in Cambridgeshire and the Isle of Ely in late 1971/ early 1972. The Finnish study is based on a visit in May/June 1972 under the auspices of a Social Fellowship from the Council of Europe. Its purpose was to discuss at first hand with all relevant authorities the problems of providing social services for older people, the basis of future planning of services, and to study the conditions in which older people live in the community and in institutional care. A growing trend in Finland towards open care and away from institutions in both social welfare and health was noted. (RH).
