AnnotationOlder widowed women are believed to be vulnerable due to income loss at widowhood and inexperience with money. Examined were reports of 606 white widows from the US Longitudinal Retirement History Survey. Results suggest that many widows had experience in managing money, some had discussed financial survival with their spouses, but less than one-third received financial counselling as widows. A majority of the widows were poor, and experience with handling money did not decrease risk of poverty. (RH).
