AnnotationIn 1959, the King Edward's Hospital Fund for London sponsored the formation of a Committee in Lewisham to study the working of all services for older people, to make recommendations to improve them or promote new ones where necessary, and in general make the facilities as satisfactory and comprehensive as possible. The Committee commissioned the Government Social Survey to carry out an investigation with the objects of discovering the need for and use of such facilities available to older people living in private households in Lewisham, and finding out how many of the people knew of the existence of the services.
