AnnotationThe investigation's primary objective was to obtain a more exact picture of the general health and symptoms of disorders affecting the health of those aged 65 and over in the Netherlands. It was also hoped that the results would provide a certain insight into the question of periodic examination of the older age group by general practitioners (GPs). The inclusion of GPs in scientific research was in itself considered to be of great importance, as among other factors, participation in such a gerontological study might lead to a greater interest in medical research in general and in the health of older people in particular. This report reflects the investigation from its planning and pilot through to the results. (RH).
