KeywordsPensions ; Life expectancy tables ; Social economics.
AnnotationThe purpose of this article is to discuss certain aspects of provision for old age, particularly some of the issues raised in the report of the Committee on the Economics and Financial Problems of the Provision for Old Age (The Phillips Report, Cmd 9333, 1954). This involves consideration of five other important official publications which, in one way or another, bear on the question of standards of living for older people. These include "Social insurance and allied services (the Beveridge Report, Cmd 6404, 1942). All these reports exhibit in common a deep concern about future population trends. (RH).
