AnnotationThe Committee's report is concerned with the economic and financial problems arising from the prospect of a steady and substantial increase in the number of older people, as against a working population remaining roughly constant. The report opens with a brief account of existing provision for older age. This is followed by discussion of the changes in population which are expected to take place, and the general economic and financial problems to which these changes will give rise. The Committee considers the problems of various types of provision: national insurance retirement pensions; occupational pension schemes; and National Assistance and other services for the old. (RH).
