AnnotationDementia with Lewy bodies (DLB) is being increasingly recognised as a common cause of degenerative dementia, however, research has been hindered to some extent by debate surrounding the relationship of the disorder to Alzheimer's disease, and to Parkinson's disease. This article describes the pathological and clinical features of DLB, and looks at existing and possible pharmacotherapies. It is based on guidelines established by the Consortium on Dementia with Lewy Bodies, which met in October 1995 in Newcastle upon Tyne to set up consensus guidelines for the clinical diagnosis of the disorder.
