| Annotation | This chapter is a review of literature based on the evaluation of books and articles, as well as a Medline search of the literature from 1988 to 1994, in which emphasis was placed on reports or studies evaluating the protein-calorie nutritional status of blacks aged 65 years and over. The chapter is organised to review: demographic aspects; national studies which gave insight into the overall nutritional status of African Americans; regional studies which review some or all aspect of nutritional status; a preliminary report based on an evaluation of old-old African Americans from the Oklahoma City area; and a review of areas where more information is required.
