AnnotationCurrently, traditional values are being confronted with rapid social changes both outside and within families. Over the last decades, families have been changing shape from "bottom heavy" (many children) to "top heavy" (many older people). The norms of filial obligations are, however, still vital. This article examines the nature of public attitudes towards care provision in Norway. It discusses the many questions that are raised when family members want to do "the right thing" but, due to society's changes, may not know what "the right thing" is. (RH).
