AnnotationThis study assesses and describes service changes following the introduction of a psychiatric consultation liaison nursing (PCLN) service in response to perceived demand for old age psychiatry assessments from medical and surgical wards. Within six months, there was an increase in liaison referrals to the service. The proportion of people offered follow-up showed little change, and delay before assessment decreased substantially with the PCLN service. Although difficulties were encountered with this old age psychiatry consultation liaison nurse (OAPCLN) service, it is a useful model for old age psychiatry services to consider researching and developing further.
