AnnotationThe Transport Act 1985 and, more recently the Green Paper, "Developing an integrated transport policy" (August 1997) have not helped to promote mobility and access to public transport for older people. Against this background, ARP/O50 has researched policies relating to concessionary fares. This report covers local authorities in England and Wales in the form of a directory. It gives details including: whom to contact; whether there is a free scheme; charges and concessions; who is eligible; whether means tested; and restrictions on use. ARP/O50 is seeking government funding to local authorities, which would enable a basic concession for the whole country, with an ultimate goal of free public transport for everyone over the age of sixty.
